The Church of Saint Sava is located near the church of Santa Maria in Punta in the southwestern part of the old city of Budva. It was built in 1141 in honor of Saint Sava. Recent excavations have revealed traces of murals that make this church the best example of medieval architecture. In Budva, today there is almost no trace of the church's ancient carvings, icons, and frescoes. During the Canadian War in the mid-17th century, church services were held with Catholics and Orthodox Christians who were oppressed by the Venetians.
