The Basilica of Santa Maria in Ponta is one of the oldest pre-Roman churches in the coastal region of Montenegro, and according to the record preserved on the stone plaque on its eastern wall, this church was established by the Benedictines in 840 AD as their monastery, and was later taken over by the Franciscans, and this was The monastery houses the oldest school in Budva, and a large number of ancient tombs were found in it.
