Selimiye Mosque, historically known as Saint Sophia Cathedral, is a former Roman Catholic cathedral converted into a mosque, located in North Nicosia in the Old Town district. This is the main mosque of the city, this Selimiye Mosque is located in the largest and oldest surviving Gothic church in Cyprus (interior dimensions: 66 x 21 m) In total, the mosque has the capacity to accommodate 2,500 worshipers with 1,750 square meters available for worship. Which makes it the largest historical building in Nicosia.
