The São Gonzalo Bridge is located in the historic center of Amarante, and is considered one of its main tourist sites. It is a granite bridge built over the Tamiga River in the late eighteenth century, and there is a stone plaque on one of the obelisks guarding its entrance on the left bank that commemorates the victorious resistance of the General General Silveirea, which faced Napoleon's forces under General Loison, has been designated a Portugal National Monument since 1919.
