Santa Maria dello Spasimo is an unfinished Catholic church located in the Calsa district of Palermo. The construction of the church began in 1509, but the church was not completed due to the Turkish threat in 1535 AD, as the resources allocated to the church were diverted to fortifications of the city against any possible incursions. The church is considered a masterpiece despite its incompleteness, and is characterized by its beautiful interior design represented by decorations and inscriptions, in addition to the paintings and drawings that decorate the walls. The church now hosts many musical, theatrical and cultural events in the open air, as it does not have a roof.
