Construction work on the Temple of Santa Luzia dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus began in 1904 and continued until 1959. It is the work of the architect Miguel Ventura Terra, and is characterized by its Romanesque-Byzantine-inspired building and its majestic rose windows, which is considered the largest of its kind in The Iberian Peninsula and one of the largest in Europe, National Geographic magazine ranked this temple as the third most beautiful building in the world.
