Fakhr El Din El Maani Castle, which dates back to the thirteenth century AD, was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980 AD. It enjoys great historical and archaeological importance, and was one of the most important cultural centers in the ancient world. The remains of this castle are located on a rocky hill somewhat high, surrounded by a moat topped by a drawbridge, and overlooking the archaeological site of Palmyra, which attracts many tourists to it every year.
