In the past, this city was called by many names, as it was called "New Athens" and "Palm Oasis". The ancient Kingdom of Palmyra was and still is one of the Syrian cities of great tourist and commercial importance between the Levant and Mesopotamia. It is one of the oldest historical cities in the whole world. It has origins dating back to its flourishing period in the second half of the first century BC; Thanks to the diverse civilizations that inhabited its lands, Palmyra is full of tourist attractions with amazing Roman, Greek and Syrian Semitic architectural styles. It also has an abundance of ancient gates, triumphal arches and temples distributed on its lands, which led to its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980 AD.
