Information about Porta Nova Arch
The Porta Nova Arch was one of the main doors in Braga's city walls that were destroyed in 1512 during the reign of Braga Archbishop Diogo de Sousa. It has been designated a National Monument since 1910, and its present form dates back to the reconstruction project that Done between 1772 and 1773, the local Archbishop Gaspar de Bragança transformed the door into an arch by the multi-talented architect André Soares, who designed one side in the Baroque style with four columns and the other in the neoclassical style with Two columns and a statue of Our Lady of Nazareth.
