The Biscaenhaus Museum is located in a beautiful residential mansion of a noble family that built it in the 17th century. This fine example of civic Baroque architecture shows what Baroque society was like in the past. In the house there is a gallery of 17th and 18th century art built mostly from private donations including furniture Baroque, ceramics, Chinese porcelain, European glass, silverware, and textiles, as well as Portuguese and European paintings. Sewn into the palace are a series of gardens inspired by 18th-century French styles, some of the best preserved examples from the Baroque era.
