In honor of the close relationship that linked the Sultanate of Oman and France for centuries, the Franco-Omani Museum was established by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the late former French President François Mitterrand in 1992 and is housed in the House of France; The former residence of the French Consul in Old Muscat, and through galleries that reflect the relations between the two countries, this museum provides an interesting snapshot of colonial life in the nineteenth century in Muscat, along with a series of old photographs and maps documenting the history of the capital in the last century. Also a map of the city of Paris showing the itinerary of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos during his official visit in 1989.
