Information about Al Khor Mosque
Al Khor Mosque is one of the oldest and most beautiful mosques in Oman. It was formerly known as the Mosque of the Martyrs, because dozens of funeral prayers were held in this mosque for the Omanis who died in order to expel the Portuguese when they tried to invade Oman between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Al Khor Mosque is located directly next to the Al Alam Palace on the sea side. It is called Al Khor Mosque because of the internal water gaps caused by the tidal waves crashing into the rocky coast of Muscat.
