Information about Al Mirani Fort
The Mirani Castle was built by the Portuguese on the Mirani rock. They built a shipyard and a stronghold at sea level under the rock in the year 1019 AH / 1610 AD. There is an inscription in Portuguese engraved on the southeastern wall of the lower back yard towards the port, and this inscription appears to have been altered, perhaps after 1050 AH / 1640 AD, when Portugal gained independence from Spain. Perhaps the Al Mirani Castle or the Castle of Capitan was always considered one of the most important forts. Miles mentioned that the Portuguese ruler in the site of Martino Afonsodi Millao was staying there in the year 1032 AH / 1623 AD when the weather was very hot, although he used to reside most of the year in the Jerez complex below the castle. It is of great historical importance and is considered one of the most influential tourist attractions in the Sultanate of Oman. Where many tourists come to get acquainted with the splendor of the old architecture. But at the present time it is used as a military barracks, and it is not allowed to enter it by the general visitor.
