The Department of History and Archeology at the Oltenia Museum was established by the architect Frantisek Bilek and opened in 1906 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the reign of King Carol I. In 1928 it became part of the Oltenia Regional Museum and today houses more than 20 collections From antiques such as coins, medals, documents, ceramics, weapons, adornments, manuscripts, old books, souvenirs, photographs and more.
