The Mata Museum consists of 3 large rooms in which various sacred works of art are displayed. It currently houses a clear number of sacred silver that comes from the treasure of the Matera Cathedral and from the Basilica of Santa Chiara, which can be dated between the eleventh and nineteenth centuries, and among the oldest pieces exhibited In the Museum of the Diocese of Matera stands the Byzantine cross or pectoral cross, which dates back to the middle of the eleventh century.
