Matera is the capital of the state of Matera in southern Italy, and is the third longest and oldest continuously inhabited historical settlement in the world. Known as the City of Caves and Stones, this city is entirely carved on a rugged mountain hill and dates back to the Paleolithic period. This city entered the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993 and has become one of the most vibrant tourist cities in Italy. Matera has enough attractions that attract tourists from all sides; It is distinguished by its archaeological buildings that are attached to each other, and enjoys its breathtaking panoramic view. It includes many museums that narrate the events of its development from a poor city to an important tourist city, in addition to distinguished hotels, local and international restaurants, churches dating back to antiquity, and unique commercial centers.
