Information about Maiden's Castle
The Maiden's Castle is an ancient castle built on a small island facing the town of the same name in the province of Mersin. It is believed that it was used by pirates in ancient times, and that it was built by Alexios I Komnenos during the Byzantine Empire after the Crusade. The first, extensively rebuilt in the thirteenth century by Leo I. It was called the "Virgin's Castle", according to the legend that the king's fortune-teller told him that his daughter would die from a snake bite, so he built a castle away from snakes, and placed his daughter in it in order to protect her from her fate.
