Information about Narlıkuyu Mosaic Museum
The Narlikuyu Mosaic Museum is located in Mersin, and it is one of the distinctive historical monuments of the city, which was originally a Turkish bath built by a high-ranking officer in the Eastern Roman Empire, to take advantage of the city's fresh water source, and its floor was decorated with mosaics. The mosaic, made of black, white and yellow stones, depicts the three daughters of the chief deity Zeus in antiquity, with geometric motifs, birds and local flowers. The three sisters are called Charites, a name derived from the ancient Greek kharis, which means brightness, brilliance and beauty. To preserve this beauty, the museum was built by covering the mosaic floor of the Roman bath, which today is one of the most beautiful ancient architectural masterpieces in the city.
