On the slope above the rest of the ruins of Hierapolis is the Great Theatre, with a facade that spans 100 meters and two levels of seating, each with 26 rows. Built during the reign of the Roman Emperors Hadrian and Septimius Severus, the theater is very well preserved. It has preserved many of the original details, with the imperial chests (where important guests watched the entertainment) and some ornate paintings along the stage still standing. There are great views from the upper seating levels.
