Denizli is a city and province in southwestern Turkey near the Aegean coast. It is famous for the ruins of ancient Hierapolis, founded by the Phrygians in the second century BC. Inside the former Roman baths, the Hierapolis Museum of Archeology displays the friezes, the sarcophagus, and the Sphinx. Nearby are Pamukkale hot springs. Between Pamukkale and the capital, also called Denizli, there is the ancient city of Laodicea on the banks of the river.
