Information about Hallgrimskirkja
Hallerimskirkia is a Lutheran parish church located in Reykjavik. With a height of 74.5 meters, it is the largest church in Iceland and among the tallest buildings in the country. The church was named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson, author of the Passion hymns that are still sung today in churches. The church was designed by one of Iceland's most famous architects, who is said to have sought inspiration for his expressive design from Icelandic elements of nature, glaciers, mountains and lava formations. The church today stands tall with its pointed head pointing to the top of the sky, similar to the hammer of a bull, with the handle pointing upwards as a nod to the religious history of Iceland.
