Information about Frigate Dom Fernando II e Glória
The historic Fregate Dom Fernando y Gloria was the last warship to sail for Portugal. Featuring three masts and 50 cannons, the ship remained in active service until 1878, when it made its last sea voyage, when it had covered more than 100,000 miles, the equivalent of five voyages around the world. After a long period of service, it was destroyed by fire in 1963 with the burning wooden structure remaining ashore in the mudflats of the Tagus River for 29 years. In 1990, the Portuguese Navy decided to return it to its original appearance before it was destroyed, and it has been preserved as a museum visited by many tourists from all over the world.
