Almada is a city and municipality in Portugal, located on the southern edge of the Tagus River, across the river from Lisbon, and the two cities are linked by the 25th of April Bridge. Human presence in the Almada region dates back to the end of the Neolithic period, about 5,000 years ago. Archaeological excavations carried out in the municipality indicate that unsettled Bedouin tribes may have occupied this site intermittently; The gradual development of settlement here achieved its greatest progress with the advent of Islamic civilization, when the Muslims built a fortress in Almada to defend and control the entrance to the Tagus River. The city is characterized by its picturesque nature because it is located on the river, and many residents and tourists come to it to have a luxurious dinner overlooking the river views and to relax on its beautiful beaches.
