Designed by the famous German sculptor Christian Tobin, these granite columns represent the famous Karagoz, Aywaz and shadow puppets of Bursa. The water in the floating stone statue flows from the joints between the two stones in each pillar as the upper stone rotates over the lower fixed stone. This is a kinetic water sculpture which means the upper stones of 7 and 8 tons are not connected to the lower stones. The upper stones rotate freely by the force of the water flowing upward at the joints between the stones, yet the stones remain stacked by the equilibrium of gravity; This is where art meets science!
