Deir el-Bahari is a complex of funerary temples and tombs, and this magnificent landmark is located on the west bank of the Nile. The first monument and temple memorial in the region was to Amenhotep II, a temple with a very long history, as it was built during the twenty-first century BC. The mortuary temple itself consists of a forecourt, an entrance gate, walled on three sides, and a splendid porch. These temples face to the east, because they are associated with the worship of the sun.
