The colossal statue known as Pigna depicting a giant pine cone, is located in the district of St. Peter in an area called Pigna Court which is the northern part of the great courtyard of the Belvedere that runs between the papal palaces. The name of the current courtyard derives from the beautiful pine-cone statue cast in bronze in the first or second century by the sculptor Publius Cincius Salvius.
