The government building, which was built between 1904-1906, was used as a government house until January 19, 1976, but it became unusable, as a result of a fire that broke out inside it, and after this fire, the Ministry of Culture began to carry out restoration work in 2000, which was completed in 2006, and opened as a museum of the city's history in the same year, becoming a cultural unit, aiming to contain all kinds of information, documents, pieces, visual materials, audio records, and photographs related to Safranbolu. Temporary and permanent exhibitions are also organized, in order to promote and display the cultural, historical and social wealth of the city.
