Built by John Hunyadi during the reign of Hungarian King Carol Robert and redesigned by the Hapsburgs in the late 18th century, Hunyadi Castle is a 14th-century castle and is the oldest historical monument still standing. To this day in the city of Timisoara, and today it includes the Banat Historical Museum, which hosts the largest collection of artifacts in the region and includes departments of history, archeology, ethnography and natural sciences, and also contains a laboratory for the preservation of heritage and historical artifacts.
