Freedom Square, also known as Prince Eugenio de Savoia Square, was built in the mid-18th century, and for an unknown period of time, it was known as Military Square or Procession Square. In 1848, when the Hungarian Revolution began, the square acquired its current name, and hosts Today, a group of ancient buildings and monuments, such as the Army House and the Statue of Saint Mary, along with many shops, restaurants and cafes, this square is considered the military center of Timisoara.
