The Casa do Benin Museum was opened in 1988, in the heart of the historical center of the state of Bahia. It is an ancient museum that represents and reflects a piece of Africa, where the exchange of cultures is established to and from Africa. This cultural space contains an important Afro-Brazilian artistic and cultural collection, to promote Afro-Brazilian cultural relations, and the museum contains a collection of about 200 objects from the Gulf of Benin, collected by French photographer Pierre Verger during his travels to Africa.
