A few kilometers northwest of Sagres in the Algarve is the historic Cape Saint Vincent, a rocky, windswept cape at what is claimed to be the southwesternmost point of mainland Europe. Until the end of the fourteenth century, many believed that this place was the end of world, and if you stand here at sunset, it can be easy to see why, as the sun appears extraordinarily large as it sets over the endless sea.
