A public library located in Bern, this institution has its origins in the Prostate Reformation period. Until 1951 it belonged jointly to the city and the university and was supported by the municipality of Bern and by donations from the people. The library's collection includes many wonderful books from the late medieval period. and more than 30,000 historical photographs of Bern, and about 1,000 precious manuscripts, some of which date back to late antiquity. It is one of the most famous landmarks in the city, and is frequented by lovers of books and history alike.
