The Balkan Wars Memorial Cemetery, with its tombs, memorials and statues, stands as a memorial to the Ottoman soldiers who perished in defense of the city of Edirne when it was besieged in the early twentieth century. The statue of the Unknown Soldier is the most prominent feature that can be observed when visiting the cemetery, and tombstones that preserve the names of many soldiers, fighters and military leaders can be found.
