The city of Edirne, founded by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the first centuries AD, is located in the far west of Turkey and is one of the main cities in it. The succession of empires and kingdoms throughout the city’s long history has contributed to creating a distinctive cultural identity that combines features from the East and West with all the diversity in them, and this is evident in the city’s landmarks such as mosques, churches, forts, castles, and museums. Every year, Edirne attracts large numbers of tourists who are interested in history, archeology, Roman, Greek and Islamic architecture that have coexisted together throughout the city for ages.
