The Arc de Triomphe is located in Montpellier at the eastern end of the Perot Park. It was designed by François d'Orbay after the model of Porte Saint-Denis in Paris, completed in 1693, and designed as a royal passage to the Promenade de Peru. The arch is distinguished by the prominent carvings on its sides and inscriptions that symbolize several events, most notably the inscription symbolizing the Netherlands as it bows to the king.
