Information about Al Qurainiya
Al-Qurainiyah is an archaeological site that includes a residential square dating back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries on the Kuwaiti island of Failaka. It was discovered by a joint team of Kuwaiti and Italian archaeologists. Two years of excavation revealed the remains of buildings believed to be of Portuguese origin, which include Many of the walls of houses built of coral and marine rocks and floors covered with solid milk. The houses include a yard, bedrooms and walls decorated with frescoes common in that period. Pottery works believed to be from the same period were also found. Kuwait decided to name the site “Al-Qurainiyah” after a nearby hill in the northern region of the island.
