Today it is classified as a bird habitat in the Middle East, included in the Middle East Wetland Directory, declared a “Biosphere Reserve” by UNESCO, and recently designated, with the Chouf Cedar Nature Reserve, a “Biosphere Reserve” by UNESCO. The reserve is characterized by the beauty of its nature, where the fertile green plains and ponds of stagnant water, and the birds and livestock that make this place home. Many locals and tourists, who are nature lovers, visit the reserve. They wander the long paths inside it, camp in it, or even barbecue with friends or family, but it is forbidden to hunt inside because it is a nature reserve for wildlife.
