Krasnodar is a beautiful city in southern Russia, founded in 1794 by Black Sea Cossacks to protect Russia's southern borders, and today it is one of the most important cultural centers in southern Russia. Famous for its lattice steel water tower, designed by architect (Vladimir Shukhov) in the early 20th century, the large five-domed St. Catherine's Cathedral dating back to 1914, and the scenic Chistyakovkaya Rocha park with ancient oak trees. The tsarist-era buildings give parts of the city a European-chic appearance, earning it the nickname "Little Paris" and attracting tourists from all over the world.
