Freudenstadt is a world-renowned health and climate resort town in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany, and is the capital of the Freudenstadt region. Its closest population centers are Offenburg to the west (about 36 km) and Tübingen to the east (about 47 km). The city itself is located on a high plateau at the eastern edge of the northern Black Forest, and is famous for Germany's largest market. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, famous visitors to this city included George V of the United Kingdom, Queen of Sweden, John D. Rockefeller, and even American writer Mark Twain. With many upscale hotels, guesthouses and restaurants, Freudenstadt is a popular vacation spot for tourists from all over the country.
