Information about Yıldız Hamidiye Mosque
The Yıldız Hamidiye Mosque located on Barbaros Bulvary in Istanbul was built by Sultan Abdul Hamid II between 1884 and 1886 according to the design of the engineer Sarkis Baylan. It was used for the Sultan’s Friday speeches, and was the site of an assassination attempt on Abdul Hamid II in 1905. The two-storey mosque is characterized by a rectangular structure and one central dome. It has one minaret built of cut stone and a marble mihrab. It also includes housing for the mosque’s employees, ablution facilities, toilets for men and women, and a clock tower built in 1890.
