Bora Bora was a supply base for the United States from early 1942 to mid 1946 in the aftermath of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii in December 1941, and as many as 6,000 soldiers were stationed on the island leaving a distinct historical legacy - seven giant cannons, eight of which were installed In total, with seven cannons remaining around the strategic coastal areas of Bora Bora, the actual guns are about eight centimeters long and over six meters in their rotating base, never used, and now rusty, and visitors climb on and take pictures on top of them.
