Information about Votive Church of Szeged
After the Great Flood of 1879 destroyed the city of Szeged, the townspeople decided to build the majestic Szeged Votive Catholic Church in 1913. Today it is considered the fourth largest church in the country. Its architecture is characterized by a mixture of Roman, Gothic and oriental elements, and includes within it 9,040 pipes, and a picture of the Virgin Mary. Dressed as shepherds, as well as a statue of "Christ on the Cross" by János Fadrusz, which won the main prize at the Paris World's Fair in 1900, the cathedral has been expanded with new spaces since 2016. In addition, the chapel contains A multifunctional exhibition area, an information desk, art store and library have been set up in the basement.
