The Trail of Pain is a route inside the Old City of Jerusalem and has great importance. According to Christian beliefs, this Trail is the place where Jesus, peace be upon him, walked from the moment of his judgment until his crucifixion and execution. The path consists of 14 stages, each one an example of his suffering. The stages begin near the Lions Gate and end in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the Old City. Visitors walk throughout the year carrying the cross on the Path of the Passion, while Christians follow their fast before Easter, in imitation of Jesus, who was forced to carry the cross since his sentence.
