Located in the heart of Praslin National Park, Vallee de Mai is one of the island's highlights and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, gaining its importance because it contains the remains of a palm forest preserved in its original state since prehistoric times. The area extends over an area of 19 hectares of vast garden land, and contains a very rare type of palm called "coco de mer", a type of tree that grows even in the darkest conditions.
