The name of the church is due to its former location outside the city walls behind the river Asi. It was completed in 1340. This bright and vibrant church houses the strongest Gothic church tower in all of Westphalia, whose roof was destroyed by a hurricane in 1704. Statues have been excavated The magnificent Gateway Forms belonging to a church destroyed by the city's Baptists, is now on display in the National Westphalian Museum.
