The famous scientist Erasmus von Rotterdam lived in the whale house between 1529 and 1531, after escaping from the reformation in Basel, Switzerland, but he did not find comfort in this house. It is hard to imagine how the world did not feel comfortable in this house, with the wonderfully decorated entrance window and the masonry filled with stunning elements of the late Gothic style, and this house is nowadays operated as a branch of a bank in the city.
