It is a neighborhood located between the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the northern edge of the city's central business district. The beaches of this neighborhood are called rocky shores, and it was the first permanent European settlement in Australia. By the late nineteenth century AD, the area turned into a slum and riotous neighborhood, but in 1970 the city began a massive restoration project to save the historic homes and warehouses in this district. Today, it has been restored as a popular tourist destination filled with art galleries, national museums, upscale boutiques, trendy local and international restaurants, souvenir shops, and more.
