The House of Humor and Satire is a unique cultural institute for the comic and satirical arts of international and global significance. An old tannery venue was established on the 1972 International Day of Fun, home to the local folk spirit and joyful carnival traditions of Gabrovo, the capital of Bulgarian humour. Under the motto "The world survived because it laughed", the museum is a multi-faceted cultural center, a museum of laughter, a gallery of international comic art, an information center, a place of entertainment, and a tourist attraction for children and adults alike. The main purpose of the museum is to collect, explore, display, and humor peoples in the fields of fine art, literature, folklore, photography, posters and comic traditions around the world.
