Information about The Ghetto Heroes Square
It is one of the oldest tourist attractions in the city and covers an area of 13,000 square meters, and it is made of gray rocky stones. On the paving there is a collection of urban furniture, most of which are chairs arranged on a virtual grid on about five to five metres, all oriented in the same direction. Each chair is fixed to the floor by a small, slightly raised metal platform. It is the center where the Nazi occupiers in Krakow forced the Jewish community south from Kazimierz, when the Krakow ghetto was liquidated in 1943 leaving the clothes and furniture belonging to its residents strewn across the square.
