The ancient Tarsus Mosque, standing on the ruins of a church in Charchibeshi in the city of Tarsus, was built in the year 1102 AD. It is said to have been built as a cathedral for St. Paul. The mosque was distinguished by its thick and high Roman-style walls, its wide interior courtyards, its narrow exterior, deep windows, and thick columns adorned with ornate capitals.
